History

Discovered by Christopher Columbus in 1503 in the calm, turquoise waters of the western Caribbean, the Cayman Islands were later traded to England and remain one of fourteen British Overseas Territories. The Cayman Islands are English speaking and affluent, with a rich culture where islanders mix with expatriates from around the globe.

Geography

The three islands of Grand Cayman, Cayman Brac, and Little Cayman have a combined land mass of around 100 square miles, lying approximately 480 miles south of Miami. Grand Cayman, the largest and most populous, sits about 89 miles west-southwest of the other two, which are separated by a channel only seven miles wide.

Climate

The Cayman Islands enjoy average temperatures ranging from 77°F to 85°F. December through April have the least humidity and lowest temperatures, although seasonal trade winds keep conditions enjoyable nearly year-round. While the calendar is divided into ‘wet’ and ‘dry’ seasons, the islands’ location in the West Indies means showers are typically tropical and brief.

Economy

As the fifth largest financial center in the world, the Cayman Islands have the highest per capita income and some of the best infrastructure and standards of living in the Caribbean. While the American dollar is readily accepted on island, Cayman also has its own currency, fixed at an exchange rate of US$1.20 to CI$1.00.

Scuba & Watersports

To entertain even the most active traveller, nearby dive shops and beach-side vendors offer scuba adventures, sail excursions, parasailing, waverunners, paddleboards, kayaks, windsurfing, and more! The reef just beyond Crescent Point’s secluded beach also showcases a colorful array of aquatic life, including vibrant coral and hundreds of tropical fish.

Stingray City

Don’t miss Cayman’s most popular attraction—Stingray City—where you can make the acquaintance of dozens of friendly, lovable stingray at this one-of-kind sandbar where Caymanian fisherman once cleaned their nets. Private and semi-private yacht and sailboat charters can be arranged in advance of your arrival.

Turtle Farm & Botswains Beach

The Cayman Islands, originally called “Las Tortugas” by Christopher Columbus, have bred and released over 31,000 green sea turtles at the Cayman Turtle Farm, which gives visitors an up-close look at turtles of all shapes and sizes. The snorkeling lagoon, water slide and restaurant at adjoining Botswains Beach complete the experience.

Dolphin Discovery

Watch the amazing and friendly dolphins at Cayman’s Dolphin Discovery perform incredible tricks before your eyes, or jump in a swim along side these intelligent, beautiful, aquatic mammals.

Duty-Free Shopping

Specializing in luxury goods including jewelry, sunglasses, watches, crystal and china, the duty-free shops along West Bay Road, in Camana Bay and surrounding the George Town Harbour entice shoppers who appreciate the finer things. The absence of sales taxes or duties often results in substantial savings over the price of similar goods back home.

Restaurants & Nightlife

Experience world-class dining at one of Grand Cayman’s fabulous restaurants, many of which are within a short walk of the Resort. After the sun goes down, there’s something for everyone, from casual beach bars to full-scale nightclubs hosting DJs from around the globe. We invite you to find your favorite spot.
